Editing Time Lapse ideas

While writing our story board we had the idea of starting our music video with various different time lapses to set the scene. For this reason, i did some research into different time lapses to find out how effective they are and which angles would be best to use and which times of the day would be most suitable. Here is an example of one i found on YouTube.

How to use a green screen

As we are coming towards the time where we are required to begin filming our music video, I think now is the perfect time to develop my knowledge on different editing techniques and how to do different things. This will mean I have an idea of what to do before we try different new things.
Below is a video I watch on how to make a green screen video, I decided to do some research into how to use a green screen as for our chorus the idea is that a range of different people will be walking to the lyrics 'take a walk' and in the background there will be a wide range of different locations from around the world. And we are hoping to achieve this by using a green screen. Although we are going to be practicing with the green screen before we film the actual music video using the green screen, watching this video has given me a good idea on how to use it before we actually have a go.

The Story Board!

We are currently completing the storyboard, which is taking much longer than expected as we have found it hard to think of a range of different ideas. We have only covered around 55 seconds of the song, meaning we need to speed up and complete the story board as the song is 4 minuets and 25 seconds long and we are unable to focus on filming until this stage of the planning is finished. Here are some pictures of where were at with the story board:

Pitch Video: 2

during our first pitch video we were still in the stages of thinking of an overall idea which was final, this meant that we didn't have a completely clear idea of what we wanted to do for the video. We gained some feedback from our teacher on what to include, and re filmed our pitch video the week after with a strong and clear idea of what we wanted to include in our video.

Copyright Permission

In order to use music recorded by Passion Pit we needed to ensure we had permission from the management of the band. Although they are unlikely to respond we have sent an email requesting their permission to use their music.

media regulations

Media Regulations

What is a regulation?
Media regulations are rules that protect the public interest and what certain audiences can and can’t view. Media regulation is targeted mostly at press, television and radio. These regulations are usually agreed between media or public organizations.
The BBFC
The bbfc is an organization which is on control of the regulations put on things like movies and music videos, this is because content can be put on the internet by anyone and is hard for the bbfc to stop people uploading what they want on the internet.  Due to this anyone is able to report content which is on the internet if they believe that it shouldn’t be seen by younger viewers.

Internet regulations
When it comes to content on the internet there isn’t actually and official regulation, however there are ‘comment sections’ and viewers have the power to report the content.

TV station regulations
It is essential that TV stations have to have standards and the government or court are able to place reporting restrictions on a case.

A banned music video
The original music video for Robin Thickle’s  ‘Blurred Lines’ is an example of a music video which did have to be regulated by the BBFC. The original music video consisted of women without clothing on and suggested that the content was too inappropriate and wasn’t allowed to be shown on TV as well as online. However, after these regulations were put in place a ‘clean’ version of the video was brought out and was basically the same however, the actors were wearing clothing, meaning it is now allowed to be shown on TV and the internet.

Feedback from our one minuet video

Before the summer break, me and my group created a short one minuet music video to practice for our main one. However, we have just received feedback from it. Feedback is good because we are then able to reflect on it and ensure that we don’t repeat the mistakes we’ve made. For example, during our video all of us lip sync throughout however in our main video we are ensuring that only one person is lip syncing throughout to ensure it’s consistent.

final decision!

Our group found it really hard to settle for one song, and after researching for what seemed like hours on YouTube and Spotify we finally decided to do the song ‘Take A Walk’ by Passion Pit. We also considered other songs that were much different, for example, ‘We’re Not The Same’ by Wolf Alice which is a slow song, we decided against this song as it was slightly shorter than the other two and we didn’t feel like there was a lot we could do with the song. We also consider the song ‘Do You Think Of Me’ by Meisha B, which is more up tempo in comparison to the Wolf Alice song. However, in the end we decided ‘Take a Walk’ by Passion Pit. This song comes under the genre/ sub-genre pop/electro pop and is much more upbeat. We decided on this as we thought that is was a much more happy song and we had a lot more different ideas for this video. However we did come across some problems, for example, the singer is a male and the lyrics can be seen as quite repetitive which could be a task to think of different ideas for the video, however, I will get back in a week or so and inform you what decision we’ve make about the problem. here’s the song:

my veiw on Democracy

In my eyes I view democracy as a place people are able to voice their own viewpoints without getting judged by their personal opinions. Although this is my view now It will forever be changing think that social media has had a large impact on the way people voice their opinions, as it may be seen as a place they can place their view point without getting judged or confronted meaning people aren’t keeping their opinion to their self’s as much in previous years when social media wasn’t big or a thing. From being familiar on the left and right side theories, I found that I believe statements said by the left side rather than the right side. Three individuals which changed mine as well as others view points on democracy, as Plato suggests that there must be different categories in society, when John Stuart mills goes against this theory and his opinion is that everyone should be equal in society and no one should be seen better.

Controversial Music Videos

In the article above the author speaks about controversial music videos, with Rhianna's video 'Bitch Better Have My Money' being the music video in mind. It suggests that the content shown isn't appropriate for Rhianna's main target audience with it being mostly teenagers aged 17-19. It is suggested that in the music video Rhianna feeds the idea of females as objects to be used and abused for material gain and an audience’s enjoyment which sets a bad example to such a young audience.

genre theories

Daniel Chandler- Conventional definitions of genres tend to be based on the notion that they constitute particular conventions of content (such as themes or settings) and/or form (including structure and style) which are shared by the texts which are regarded as belonging to them.

Tom Ryall (1978) – Genre provides a framework of structuring rules, in the shape of patterns/forms/styles/structures, which act as a form of ‘supervision’ over the work of production of filmmakers and the work of reading by the audience. John Fiske defines genres as ‘attempts to structure some order into the wide range of texts and meanings that circulate in our culture for the convenience of both producers and audiences.

Steve Neale (1990) argues that Hollywood’s generic regime performs two inter-related functions:to guarantee meanings and pleasures for audiences ii) to offset the considerable economic risks of industrial film production by providing cognitive collateral against innovation and difference.

Jonathan Culler (1978) – generic conventions exist to establish a contract between creator and reader so as to make certain expectations operative, allowing compliance and deviation from the accepted modes of intelligibility. Acts of communication are rendered intelligible only within the context of a shared conventional framework of expression

Recreation Task

For our recreation task we did the song 'happy' by Pharrell Williams, as we only had about a week to film and edit this it isn't the best thing ever, however enjoy!

Introduction

Hello!
I have previously done a full year of AS media studies and I am now onto A2! I am excited to do this year as I enjoyed creating my own thriller and I think creating a music video will be even better! throughout the year I will be posting everything I find on this blog and any other information that is relevant to the creating of our music video.
